“I remember the first time my caseworker, for Bridges Programmes, was like: ‘Regina, I know you can do this, just be yourself. We can help you to build your self-confidence, your self-esteem’.”
I arrived in Glasgow when I claimed asylum. I wanted to find my way on how I can adapt in the environment of Glasgow. A friend of mine referred me to Bridges. That’s how I found out about Bridges Programmes and I came right away to make an application.
Currently I am volunteering as a receptionist for Bridges Programmes. It’s very familiar because it’s something that I’ve been doing back home for 10 years. I was an Administrative Officer.
At Glasgow City Council, I am a Quality Standard Volunteer. Three of us from Bridges Programmes were referred to the City Council. It’s so interesting! I am grateful and happy for the opportunity.
I always try to tell people, let’s just start small and then we can grow gradually to reach where we want to reach. And with Bridges Programmes, I think I will be able to do a lot in Glasgow.
